End User Licence Agreement

In this agreement, "we", "us" and "the licensor" mean Klaas Erwin Kouwen, operating as BusRoute, Ontario, Canada. "You" means the person using the app.
1. Licence
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use this app to record and navigate school bus routes on behalf of the bus operator that holds your licence key, or to evaluate the app with a trial key.
2. Tool — not a pilot
This app is a guidance assistance tool only. It provides information based on previously recorded observations and does not replace the professional judgment of a licensed bus driver.
The driver remains solely and fully responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle at all times, including compliance with all applicable traffic laws and regulations.
Do not follow any guidance that would require unsafe driving, illegal manoeuvres, or violation of posted traffic controls.
3. Data accuracy disclaimer
Route data comes from observations recorded by human drivers and averaged across multiple runs. It may contain errors or out-of-date information due to road changes, construction, or seasonal conditions.
We make no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular use. Route guidance must be verified against actual road conditions before and during each run.
- GPS accuracy — Stop locations are accurate to approximately 3–10 metres.
- Arrival times — Average times will vary based on traffic, weather, and other factors.
- Student counts — Counts reflect historical averages. Actual numbers vary daily.
- Data freshness — Route data expires after 105 days. Even within 105 days, significant road changes may not be reflected.
4. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of or reliance on this app, including personal injury, property damage, or traffic violations.
5. Driver acknowledgment
By using this app you confirm that:
- You hold all licences required to operate the vehicle.
- You will not interact with this app in any way that takes your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel while the vehicle is in motion, except as permitted by law.
- You understand this app is an assistance tool, not a substitute for driver training or professional judgment.
- You will not enter students' names or other personal details about students in route notes or comments.
6. Privacy and data
Location access is required to use this app. It is requested when you enter your licence key. During guidance the app also asks to keep using location while the screen is locked, so guidance continues if the phone locks mid-run.
Recorded runs, stop positions, arrival times, student counts and notes are stored on your phone. The app contacts only our own server, osrm.busroute.app: to compute directions (the route's GPS path, not kept), to download map data (which map area is needed, not kept), and to activate a licence key (key, random device identifier, position rounded to about 20 km on the phone before it is sent, IP address, date and time). Your bus company can see the approximate location and date of each activation.
Our server is in Germany (Hetzner Online). Activation records are kept while the licence is active and deleted within 12 months after it ends; server logs, which may include IP addresses, are kept for up to 14 days. No advertising, analytics or tracking. No personally identifiable student information is collected.

7. Open-source software and map data
The app includes MapLibre GL JS (BSD 3-Clause licence), the Noto Sans font (SIL Open Font License 1.1) and map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database License), provided via OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles. Full notices are in the app under Legal → Credits.
8. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
